We are dedicated to educating the student body and others about issues of ethics relating to animals, whether agriculture, animal experiments, or exploiting animals for entertainment.
To this end, every week we will be "tabling," or handing out flyers and pamphlets, usually outside the UCF student union. In addition, we will hold special events such as movie screenings or speaker appearances.
We have a variety of literature, such as the great "Why Vegan?" booklets, booklets about milk, pamphlets about compassionate living in general, and assorted flyers with topics ranging from chickens to fur to circuses to vivisection.
Because of the benefits of veganism, BARC is carrying out a two-pronged campaign to "veganize" UCF:
One prime example of cruelty towards animals in entertainment is circuses. Shriners' Circus is no exception. BARC chooses to campaign against Shriners' Circus due to their cruelty as well as their proximity to campus.
During their most recent annual visit to UCF, the animals were provided by Royal Hanneford Circus. The animals were transported in complete darkness. The horses and elephants arrived before 4:30 am on Saturday and were chained or tied so that they had little or no ability to walk until the first show started at 10:00 am. The pigs arrived later, 7 to 10 of them crammed in the back of a truck, the total area estimated at about 3 feet by 10 feet. Hanneford uses bullhooks.
